  1. 1Season cube steaks with salt, pepper, and garlic powder
  2. 2Set up breading station: seasoned flour, then beaten egg, then flour again
  3. 3Coat each steak in flour, egg, then flour again
  4. 4Fry in 350°F oil 3–4 min per side until deeply golden — set aside
  5. 5Pour off most oil, leave 2 tbsp with the browned bits
  6. 6Whisk in 3 tbsp flour, cook 1 min, then slowly whisk in milk
  7. 7Stir over medium heat 5–6 min until thick; season with salt and lots of black pepper
  8. 8Pour gravy over steaks and serve with mashed potatoes
